I grew up in Portland and live in Brooklyn with a well-fed fabric stash. A writer, editor, and sewing nerd; devotee of speculative fiction and needlework in roughly equal measure, I spend most of my time making things or thinking about making things. I still kind of want to be Cayce Pollard when I grow up.
My first book, a sewing guide for cosplayers called The Hero’s Closet, is now out from Abrams. I was the editor of Vogue Patterns magazine for two years, and I’ve written nonfiction and fiction for magazines including Discover and Apex. I have a master’s degree in science writing and an SB in “humanities and science” (creative writing and physics), both from MIT.
